HOW WE SUMMARISE
THE METHOD

How a story becomes three facts.

Every summary on Teletext.ie is drafted by a machine and signed by a person. Here is exactly what each of them does.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Is Teletext.ie trustworthy?

Teletext.ie is an Irish news service, and every summary it publishes is checked against the original reporting and signed by a named editor before publication. Nothing publishes unchecked. Each story carries a receipt line recording who checked it and at what time. Every borrowed fact is linked to the outlet that reported it, and every outlet seen covering a story is counted whether or not it is linked. Every correction is logged in public at /corrections/ within one edition cycle — twelve hours. Teletext.ie hosts no syndicated full text and publishes no AI-generated photographs.

WHAT DOES TELETEXT.IE PUBLISH?

Two editions a day — 06:00 and 18:00. Each edition is a fixed set of eight stories. Two kinds of story appear in it. Originals are reported by our own newsroom; they carry yellow brackets, an ORIGINAL badge and a byline. Aggregated stories are summaries of reporting done by other outlets; they carry the section colour, a named source chip and a count of every outlet we saw covering the story.

HOW IS A SUMMARY MADE?
  1. An editor picks the stories. A machine does not decide what is news.
  2. The system drafts three facts from the source reporting, numbers first, each under twenty words, each true on its own.
  3. An editor checks every fact against the source, fixes what is wrong, and cuts what is unsupported.
  4. The editor signs it. The receipt line at the foot of every frame records who and when: AI SUMMARY · CHECKED BY P.S. 05:52.
  5. The story publishes with its sources named and linked.
WHY THREE FACTS?

Because most news stories are three facts and a lot of throat-clearing. Three is enough to be complete and few enough to be finishable. If a story genuinely needs a fourth, it gets a full original report instead of a summary.

Why link out instead of hosting the story? Because it isn’t ours. Teletext.ie hosts no syndicated full text. If you want the whole story you should read it where it was reported, and the outlet should get the visit. Our job is to tell you it happened, tell you the three things that matter, and get out of the way.

HOW WE COUNT COVERAGE

The coverage meter shows two numbers: how many outlets we saw covering a story, and how many of those we’ve linked. Lit blocks are linked; dim blocks are counted. We link the outlets that added something — the first report, the best detail, the dissenting take — not every rewrite. Counting is not endorsement and linking is not affiliation.

What happens when we get something wrong? We fix it, quickly, in the open. Every correction is logged at /corrections/, and the story carries a CORRECTION badge from then on.

QUESTIONS

Minutes, not seconds — and it is the only step we won’t compress. An editor reads all three facts against the source reporting before the edition opens at 06:00; the receipt records the time they finished.

The outlet that reported them. Teletext.ie hosts no syndicated full text — a summary of three facts, with the source named and linked, is all that appears here. Follow the link and you read the story where it was reported, and the outlet gets the visit.

Two editions a day, at 06:00 and 18:00, of eight stories each. The times never move; that is the point.

Yes. The 06:00 email sends the whole edition — every story, three facts each, sources linked. Sign up at /newsletter/. The 18:00 is optional.

■ THE 06:00

The 06:00 is the whole edition, not a teaser. Three facts a story, then it stops.
